About Modern Ancient
My name is Jared Kaping. I grew up in a Christian household, I have been a Christian since I was twelve when I was miraculously healed (more about that later). I have always been interested in history, finance, technology, and science. Growing up I had friends and people around me criticize the church for being anti-science, ignorant, and arrogant. Unfortunately, those people weren’t wrong and they called out something that we as Christians need to change. Now I believe many have turned science into their religion which is the wrong path but if God created the universe then he also created science so his teachings in the Bible should not contradict our modern understanding of the physical world. He gave us our minds so that we may discover and learn more about his creativity and power the more we learn. God’s first command was to go forth and multiply and subdue the earth. This did not mean to ruin the planet but instead to understand it and master it for God’s glory and the benefit of humanity and our home. I once heard someone say “First we must challenge our scientific discoveries and theories but if those hold true we must then challenge our understanding of the Bible.” Meaning, that science and the Bible should not be in conflict, in fact, they should support each other. This applies to science, technology, financial principles, culture, and much more. What is right? What is wrong? What is fake? What is real? How do we close the gap?
1. Why this, why now?
I am saddened by the division of the world. I hope to use my understanding of the bible, the life lessons I have learned, and the discoveries in the world at large to bring people together. To give our nation and world a better path forward. A path that heals the soul through ancient wisdom, renews our minds with modern understanding, and builds a bridge between Christians and the world.
2. Intended Community
I seek to create a community that listens to wisdom, facts, and ideas with an open mind. I hope that any comment or post you read in this community is something you take internally and mull over. Search your heart and mind for the truth and respond when you are calm. Debate is fine, in fact, it is good it is the thing that strengthens our understanding of our beliefs and challenges the fallacies we fall victim to. However, respect and decency are key to a fruitful debate. We are all learning together, all stumbling through life one minute at a time. None of us are perfect, the goal is to move closer to perfection through challenging beliefs, testing truths, and finding wisdom in all areas of life.
3. Schedule
Modern Ancient is a goal of mind, something that I hope to build as a habit. Eventually, my goal is to bring it up to 3 posts a week, 1 being free and 2 being for paid subscribers only. However, I am just beginning this process. My starting goal is to do at least 2 posts per month. Slowly over time as I become more comfortable in my writing and build this as a habit in my life I will work toward the 3 posts per week goal. Until I reach that ultimate goal all posts will be available for free, posts are automatically put behind a paywall after 2 weeks for those of you who want to look back at older posts.
TLDR
Modern Ancient seeks to combine Biblical wisdom with modern understanding. It is a place where curious individuals can learn, seek truth, and challenge their understanding of the world around them for their own benefit.
